1. Anatomy of a Personal Training Session- NASM, ACE, AFAA CECs available

One of the most common questions asked by new trainers is where to start a new client? Should we work biceps and triceps during a two day program or do we stick to full body movements only?

While this question may seem a foregone conclusion, it can only truly be answered by developing a standard model by which to assess, train and program for clients of all shapes and sizes.

In this seminar, we will detail the essential components of a personal training session—mobility, strength training, high intensity interval training and corrective exercise-- for individuals of various goals and how to accomplish each element in both 30 and 60 minute sessions.

2. Restore the Core- NASM, ACE, AFAA CECs available

When it comes to core training, the plank exercise is amongst the common and misunderstood exercises in the gym today. While many trainers utilize this move to build “core stability”, few possess an understanding of how to properly coach or progress this exercise.

With this in mind, the key to core training is understanding the basic function of the muscles of the core and how this applies to improving both appearance and function in daily life.

In this seminar, we take an objective look at methods for progressing floor based static exercises such as planks and side planks to standing positions as well as how to manipulate these exercises to develop a well defined and flat stomach without performing a single crunch.

Learning objectives:
• Define the major muscles of the core and their function
• Understand coaching and cueing for the plank, side plank and standing core exercises
• Students will gain a simple method for utilizing dynamic plank and side plank variations to enhance or replace traditional abdominal training for aesthetic appearance

As the sequel to our restore the Core presentation, this presentation delves in to advancing core training to the next level. Designed for individuals of various disciplines and needs, this type of \core training represents a shift away from sit ups and crunches by placing a strong focus on progressive core stability training.

In this presentation, attendees will learn a progressive system utilizing exercises such as planks, deadbugs and standing core training to eliminate back pain and build aesthetic appeal without flexing the torso. Utilized by numerous beauty pageant competitors, models and soccer moms alike, this system is equally applicable in both personal training and group exercise settings.

Learning objectives:
• Understanding the abdominal pooch (areas of abdominal weakness in most women)
• Learn how to quickly assess these areas and the specific exercises to bring up lagging muscles
• Standing core training progressions to immediately flatten the stomach in standing positions
• Incorporating safe and time efficient core exercises in to personal training and group exercise settings.

Chris Kelly Biography:

Chris Kelly is an experienced personal trainer, fitness educator and the owner and operator of Peak Fitness, a personal training studio in Lakeland, Florida. Chris has over eight years of experience in fitness and holds fitness certifications from the NASM and the NSCA.

As a fitness educator, Chris specializes in topics related to practical solutions for restoring and enhancing core function in a a variety of individuals—from those with low back pain to elite athletes.
